The underlying difficulty that brings most couples and individuals into therapy is a disturbing sense of disconnection. Disconnection to self, to our partner, and to our purpose and passion for life. This can cause couples to feel misunderstood and unsafe to give and receive comfort and support.

We help couples create security and connection with themselves and others, and to learn the skills to repair the ruptures that can happen even in their most loving relationship. We help couples see the defensive reactivity that can further deepen these ruptures. The goal to learn how to effectively and efficiently heal ruptures to witness and change that reflexive impulse to attack and blame each other, to bring out the best in each other and in ourselves, and to return to that "in love" heart-to-heart connection.

We help individuals connect to themselves and clearly identify feelings and needs, thus ending the need to go to excess with addictive substances such as food, alcohol, drugs, inappropriate relationships, people pleasing and merging. We help individuals develop a secure base and learn the skills to efficiently go from pain and stress back into a state of balance.

This is an efficient and cost effective way to make changes, gain a support group and learn very specific skills to end unhealthy relationships to food, alcohol, spending, or any self destructive behaviors that get in the way of creating the life that you truly know is available.

Individual Therapy

Barbara Gabriel is trained in Coherence Therapy. Coherence Therapy (previously known as Depth Oriented Brief Therapy) greatly streamlines therapy by integrating and applying well established psychotherapeutic principles and processes in focused new ways, zeroing in on specific, emotional and unconscious themes and schema’s maintaining symptoms and problems. This efficient process of discovery and change allows for a prompt and permanent transformation. Depression, anxiety, self esteem, communication, addictions, eating disorders, sexual and relationship issues lend themselves to this efficient work.

Couples & Family Therapy

Barbara Gabriel is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). We view the central problem in a distressed relationship as the loss of secure emotional connection and the pattern of negative interactions perpetuates this loss.

Emotional signals that are meant to pull a partner closer become distorted with criticism, anger and indifference. Negative patterns of interaction exacerbate each partner’s natural vulnerabilities and sense of isolation. Barbara helps couples identify the negative cycle in which they engage that leaves them feeling distant, hurt or angry. Emotionally Focused Therapy helps couples to break free of their negative patterns and reconnect with one another allowing the relationship to become a source of nurturance, pleasure and joy. A new emotional experience of secure connection, a sense that the other person can be accessible, responsive and engaged transforms love relationships.

Partners who are able to openly reach for and connect with each other can create the effective dependency that makes for a safe bond. This kind of bond promotes growth and love in both partners. Barbara helps couples strengthen their attachment bonds. Having strong attachment bonds means couples feel secure together, know they are most important to their partner, are more flexible in problem solving and communication. The same old fight is finally resolved. The walls that kept you away from each other crumble away and the feelings that brought you together in the beginning revive and grow.

Research studies indicate that 70-75% of couples in Emotionally Focused Therapy move from distress to recovery in 10-12 sessions and 90% show significant improvement. Raising Secure Kids

In this 2 hour training presentation, Barbara Gabriel zeros in on 12 essential needs of a child and how to effectively fill those needs. End your confusion about handling emotions, time outs, quality time and about the actual time a child needs to develop inner security. After more than 30 years of research in attachment theory, how children develop to feel safe and secure and go on to have productive lives as adults, free from addictions and neurosis, the research is very clear and makes perfect sense. Gain understanding and relaxation around raising your little one. Barbara is in a unique position after working with couples for over 25 years to understand security and the different types of insecurity that get played out from early childhood into adulthood. She has helped many couples and individuals go from insecurity to earned security. Barbara Gabriel has a deep understanding of how insecurity develops early on and is now educating parents on how to raise secure kids. The information in this class will allow parents to relax, end confusion and enjoy raising secure children.

Strengthening the Emotional Brain

Barbara Gabriel provides a cutting-edge presentation on neuroscience and rewiring the Emotional Brain. Learn skills and tools which will enable you to radically decrease the drives to excess and feel more of life’s richest rewards. You will learn how to bounce back from stress and pain to a real sense of well being. Learn the two important skills of self-nurturing and limit setting without which we cannot comfort and soothe ourselves from inside and will go outside to soothe and nurture ourselves with excess food, alcohol, working, smoking, people pleasing, merging/distancing, rescuing, or thinking too much. If you notice behaviors that you do that are not logical but you can’t stop engaging in them, this is the group for you. These behaviors are caused by circuits that are allostatic (unbalanced of a particular sort. They are survival circuits and embedded in them are unstoppable drives. These groups are about breaking these survival circuits.

Mastering the Your Emotional Intelligence

We are relational beings. This dynamic presentation covers how to master our Emotional Intelligence and to organize feelings. As we grow up, we know ourselves by how our parents and the adults in our environment helped us to organize our experiences. Some of us were fortunate enough to receive this kind of reflection, empathy and organization, and some of us did not. What we experience early tends to repeat itself later in life. Self-esteem emerges from contact with others we are bonded to and how they see us and help us to see ourselves.
